Who We Are

The CAMI Foundation is named in honor of Candace Anderson, who was diagnosed with a mystery illness in 2001. This mystery illness changed Candace’s life as we knew it – causing her to lose her hearing, sight, physical ability, and eventually her ability to talk. She went from being the above average teenager headed to Mercer University on a pre-med scholarship, to a beautiful young woman who is bed-ridden without the ability to communicate or move on her own.

During the digressive time of Candace’s health, her condition began to attract both local and national media attention. Her story was featured on Fox 5 Atlanta News, NBC-WXIA News, Atlanta Journal and Constitution, V-103 Radio Station and People Magazine. Friends, neighbors and family rallied together to lend support by way of food, home healthcare and money. This outpouring of good will, coupled with Candace’s determination to pursue a higher education despite her many obstacles and circumstances, is the inspiration behind The CAMI Foundation.

Our Mission
